Perhaps a Podcast One Day
Tom Williams and I are debating whether we should do a podcast on community sport – perhaps with the first episode on something like how community sport could be an amazing, unifying movement for global good especially in the face of social isolation compounded by increasing digital automation and AI dependency.
It could also be a great way to communicate more broadly about what we do – and given that Tom has history in hosting a brilliant podcast in Marathon Talk with Martin Yelling (PhD), we stand a decent chance of making a fist of it.
Right now though, time is not on our side with us often being on the road, meeting people and organisations in order to develop projects and to find opportunities for global community sport collaboration. This week was no different where we were fortunate enough to spend time with incredible leaders in public health and community cohesion, whilst catching up with friends from our previous lives.
Therefore, it’s great that some amazing people have volunteered to be part of three working groups to help us push the comms and visibility around what community sport can do for global health and wellbeing. In part, this stems from the commitments in the Leeds Declaration that came out of last year’s Summit on Community Sport for Development and Diplomacy.
These groups will work to; (1) promote collaboration across the sector, (2) demonstrate impact and promote recognition for community sport, and (3) explore how community sport and diplomacy can bring communities together around the world.
Thank you so much to everyone who has volunteered to be part of these groups!
Returning to the podcast theme, Tom finished this week by doing an interview with Ollie Hart, for his brilliant podcast, Health Coaching & Beyond. You can find previous episodes via all good podcast platforms, and Ollie’s conversation with Tom should be out very soon.
Next week, I’ll head to London for the next meeting of the UK Government’s Working Group on Sport Diplomacy (hosted by DCMS and colleagues at the Foreign Office) whilst Tom is off to Sheffield to meet up with Tim Holtam from the Brighton Table Tennis Club crew.
