Solidarity in Motion

Today is World Refugee Day, with this year’s focus specifically on solidarity with refugees. Something that we saw in spades on Wednesday when we were invited down to Brighton to celebrate the launch of Sanctuary Runners GB and enjoyed the premier of Caleb Yule’s absolutely wonderful film, Solidarity in Motion.

Supported by the London Marathon and Brighton Table Tennis Club, this really felt like an incredible moment in community sport, where people from all walks of life, all backgrounds, and all abilities came together to celebrate all that is good about the human spirit. We both felt hugely grateful to be there, and came away more inspired than ever to support great people like Graham Clifford and Tim Holtam, as they strive to make the world a better place.

From Brighton we headed to London for a UK Government working group on Sport for Diplomacy. We discussed how major sporting events can help promote international cooperation and build diplomatic relations, looking specifically at the football world cup and the Olympics. We continue to make the case that the lasting legacy of community sport, driven by and for communities, will create the most dramatic development and diplomatic good.

And you need only look at Caleb’s film for proof.
