Celebrating the Brownlee Foundation
At Participate World, we believe in the power of community sport for global good and I’m excited to see how I can take that message to the Doha Forum in Qatar next week.
The Forum brings together over 5,000 world leaders, foreign policy experts and thought leaders to address global challenges – and find innovative ways to embrace opportunities.
The emphasis this year is very much on moving away from rhetoric towards specific action. What better place to make the case for community sport as a powerful way to build bridges within and between people and communities, whilst delivering massive social impact at the individual level.
If you also happen to be going and fancy meeting up, please do drop me a personal message. Things are often better together!
And talking of massive social impact, Tom Williams was fortunate enough earlier this week to spend a couple of hours in the company of Charis Palmer-Smeaton, Head of The Brownlee Foundation. In a typical year they enable 15,000 children to participate in what is often their first ever triathlon, they provide bikes (and scooters for kids that can’t ride one), and make sure the swim has options for non-swimmers. Founded by Alistair Brownlee OBE and Jonathan Brownlee after the 2012 Olympics, they’ve strived ever since to help as many children as possible experience sport and physical activity.
At Participate World we are committed to supporting and celebrating the many great community sport practitioners across the UK and around the world. They achieve amazing things on a daily basis and remind us all of the wonderful power of humanity when we come together to do good things.
